Why I stopped doing business in Canada

One clear cultural reason on why doing business in Canada is less attractive than in the US.

Apart from being paid in USD, working in Canada could be quite convenient for me: less competition, more cultural connection/trust, etc.

One clear reason that bothered me for a while working with Canadians is their anti-capitalist mindset. Canada is a socialist country, meaning the government intervenes a lot in the well-being of its citizen. This is very toxic for libertarians for me, but more on that later, it will definitely the defacto country for lower-middle class folks that want to live well-pampered, supported lives.

The point here is that this socialist mindset prevails in Canadian business too. Apart from all the grants, when people spend their own money in Canada, they are very much risk averse. They think that out of all 10 investments they’ll make, 10 will succeed. Or they’ll ask for their money back. This is not how business works, folks.

Business, done the real way, that is if you want that Forbes front cover, is trying out 100 experiments, and MAYBE have 3 succeed.

Americans think this way. They invented capitalism, after all. They’ll try a bunch of solutions and not be sour if a bunch fails.
